Of course metric bolts are marked on the head, so if you look and see an 8.4 or something, it is metric. SAE bolts are generally not marked other than grade markings generally a symbol or with structural bolting, 3 numbers (e.g. 307, 325, 490 etc.). All bolts may have a manufacturers mark, or may not.
